Do I need to register or let the teacher know I’m coming?

No, all classes are open to all students. If you are new to the studio, welcome! Drop in any time to our classes.

Do I need to have any experience?

Our classes are designed so that movers of all levels of experience and ability can enjoy class. We know that sometimes students who are new to the studio and our classes may feel shy at first. After a few classes, or perhaps even a few minutes, we hope you’ll feel at home.

How much does class cost?

It varies by teacher, though $10 is the most common drop in. The Zumba class is $5 drop in.  Teachers may offer additional discounts on class cards. Many Nia teachers offer a first class free to Albuquerque residents who have never taken Nia before. Please check with each individual instructor for rates and discount cards.

What should I wear?

Some people wear t-shirts and sweats, and others love to wear workout clothes. Wear whatever is comfortable for you to move and sweat in.

We are a barefoot studio, so you don’t need special shoes. Zumba students often prefer to wear shoes (please dust them off before dancing and be sure to wear soft sole shoes such as sneakers). It's fine to wear shoes for Nia, too, as long as they are primarily indoor shoes. Some students wear Vibrams or dance slippers and some students wear sneakers when they are recovering from an injury.

What will class be like? What if I make a fool of myself? What if I’m late? What are the rules?

We are pretty darn laid back. If you’re late, come on in, take off your shoes, and join in. Our classes encourage playfulness. While technique is important to what we do, so is nurturing our creativity and honoring our individuality. Each teacher and each class is unique, so you may want to explore and find the classes and teachers that work best for you.

What if I’m not very flexible or coordinated or fit or strong or confident?

Would you like to become stronger, more flexible, more confident, and more joyful? Classes at Studio Sway are a great place to start. Many of us, including current teachers, began when we were out of shape, or recovering from an injury, or even just stuck in a rut. If you already are very fit, jam on. Our classes support you in finding great pleasure in moving the Body’s Way. There is a place in our classes for everyone.

Are the instructors certified?

Yes, we are, and we bring lots of experience, training, and passion to our teaching. Learn a bit more about our teachers by visiting our website.
